My Tuesday Teaser is from Code Name Jack Rabbit, book 1 of The Vampire Guard. Forge crossed his arms over his chest. “Those weren’t accidents. They were hits.” “Hits using what?” Ori asked. “That’s the confusing part. There’s no evidence of explosives or sabotage. The boats and ships were damaged from underneath and sank. It must have happened fast and been utterly devastating because as far as we know there were very few survivors or witnesses we could locate, again with the exception of the most recent incident.” “Drowning is not the most efficient way to kill a werewolf,” Ori noted. Lucas nodded. “That’s for sure. We can withstand colder temperatures while in wolf form than either humans or vampires. I can hold my breath for a good ten minutes underwater after I change, and I think that’s about average. Someone—a werewolf—who trained as a diver, could probably hold their breath even longer. A changed werewolf is an amazingly strong and excellent swimmer. All in all, we’re pretty well suited for being in the water.” “The boat that capsized here was an accident, and other than Bronwen and Mr. Newmann, all the people onboard were werewolves,” Declan said. “I suspect they made sure Bronwen survived because they need her. Newmann wasn’t so lucky. Whether they wanted Newmann dead or not, we’ll probably never know.” “Didn’t she say those animals were predators?” Forge asked. “Maybe the intended victim was marked somehow so after they hit the water they’d be attacked?” “They would have to be. Simply dumping them in water wouldn’t do the trick. We’ll need to figure out how the targets were singled out,” Lucas said. “I feel as if I missed a whole page or two of the briefing,” Ori said. He and Kai glanced around at the others, obviously confused. “What are you talking about?” Blair glanced at his phone for a few seconds, then tapped Kai’s shoulder and motioned to the laptop. “May I? Bronwen sent me some additional information.” Kai nodded and stood up, giving Blair access to the computer. “Do you think we can get anything more from Grier?” Kai asked. Declan rubbed his hands against his thighs, then reached out and took Lucas’s arm, trying to turn him to the door. “Let’s take a walk.” Lucas jerked his arm free. “What happened?” Declan tried moving Lucas along. “We should—” “What happened?” Lucas snapped. “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me.” He turned to glare at Forge. One look from Declan told Forge to keep his mouth shut. Declan took a deep breath. “Your Uncle Jasper and Carl met us there. They said they’d handle Grier, and that was our intention as well. Except Grier got loose and both Jasper and Carl were hurt. Jasper more so.” Lucas sucked in a breath and steadied himself against a chair. “How badly?” “He’s back at the compound and doing well. He’ll be laid up for a few days, though,” Declan said quietly. “That wouldn’t have happened at all if we hadn’t kept him locked up like that,” Lucas growled. “Where’s Grier now?” “I killed him,” Forge said quietly.
