 My strategy against homophobia -- or any type of discrimination -- is to never play into it. In the case of homophobia directly I've taken it a step further with my fiction.
I think I've mentioned this before, but it is worth repeating. In my books I try to dispel homophobia by making it acceptable and common place in my novels. These men I create and write stories about have likes, dislikes, lives, and that's what I write about. I try to focus on them and create worlds and situations where one's sexual orientation doesn't matter. They are free to love whom they like.

I'm here today to talk about the next book in the Sentries series, Collared Souls which is due out this spring.
What is the working title of your book?
Collared Souls and it’s book four of Sentries series.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
I’ve had the general ideas for each of the books in the series, as well as how many there are all along. There are plots for the series overall and subplots in each of the books. As part of the continuing series plot my guys, Todd and Nick Ruger are involved in a personal way in a war. This is something that is really brought to the forefront in this book. They’re right in the thick of it.
In this installment I planned for them to discover answers to the past, not only their individual past, but also the history of their society.
What genre does your book fall under?
Scifi, action/adventure, futuristic.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie?
I’ve changed my mind on that so much I’ve lost track. I did see some guy, a model, whose name I don't even know and thought that's Todd! I haven't anyone specific for Nick.
What is a one sentence synopsis of your book?
Going back to their roots and discovering the past, leads to new beginnings and an understanding of the present.
Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?
It will be published by Dreamspinner Press this spring.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
I think about four months.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre.
I haven’t read any similar to mine. There are slave stories, supernatural stories, and scifi futuristic stories with elements but none I could really compare it too. I’m sure they’re out there, but I haven’t found them.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
I had intended from the start to have Todd and Nick return to Nick’s village at some point, as well as go more in depth about the disaster that lead to the evolution of this society. A friend of mine gave me the inspiration for one of the major plot points of the book, but I can’t tell more without terribly spoiling the story.
What else about your book might interest the reader?
Even though it’s written in the future, I’ve taken a lot of our past history, to create my plot.

So, everyone participating this weekend is writing about the same subject:
What Writing GLBT Literature Means to Me.
First and foremost it means I am able to write the types of stories I like to read. There are 90 bazzillion books, of all sorts, in the world to read. So, really there isn't a lack of reading material on our planet. The hard part is sorting out of all those books the story I want to read.
The stories I like to read are the sorts where there is a world where terms like GLBT and organizations like the NAACP have no place, don't exist and don't need to. I prefer to think someday soon we'll have such a world, where people aren't tagged by their sexual orientation, skin color or politics, but by their accomplishments great and small.
Being able to not only write, but publish (and people buy) GLBT literature, means to me we're one step closer to making our world a better place.
I'd love to hear your opinion.
