Daniel did what any self-respecting man would do when he’d broken up with the absolute love of his life, shoved him away, literally, and drove off. He got drunk. Not just any drunk, no, he got himself rip-roaring plastered. The half a case of beer he and Kyle had at home lasted about twenty minutes before he cracked open the hard stuff. As the alcohol haze pickled his brain, Daniel asked himself what he had done. Things he’d vowed never to do, that was what. He’d broken rule number one and let himself get involved. As if that weren’t bad enough, he’d abandoned Kyle. Left him alone and confused. In the entire time Kyle had been with him, never once had Daniel left him alone. Once in a while, nightmares still plagued Kyle, reliving his abduction and flight for freedom. Daniel had promised to protect Kyle, keep him safe and love him. Great job he was doing since he’d now left Kyle alone and unprotected in a place he wasn’t entirely sure was safe. Why wasn’t the barracks safe for Kyle? The booze swirled slowly over Daniel’s mind and he tried to put together little things that had been bugging him for weeks, maybe months now. The missions they’d been sent on. How long it’d taken others to accept Kyle, how some had taken to him right away. Nothing made sense and Daniel knew he’d dismiss these thoughts when he was sober. Which didn’t look to be anytime soon. He’d passed out and come to again, washing the bottom-of-a-bird-cage taste from his mouth with a half-bottle of whiskey. His phone rang a few times, Kyle and then Pierre trying to reach him. He’d ignored them. Once he had his belongings packed, he’d go back to the barracks and have Keller ship him off somewhere else. Preferably a place without strays for him to take in and love. When it was Sally’s number on his caller ID, he answered. The next sound was a semi-automatic being fired outside his building, which had him jumping out of his skin and falling off the couch. A couch he’d made love to Kyle on so many times he’d lost count. “What the—?” Daniel clambered to his feet and stumbled at the window. "Sorry, Sally, are you—?” More gunfire and then someone, not Sally, was shouting at him on the phone. “You goddamn, stupid, pigheaded moron. Get your ass down here now before I come up there!” That was Pierre. He looked out the front window; Pierre was indeed standing on the beach just outside the fence. “You seem a little agitated.” “Now, you stupid fucker!” This time he aimed the weapon at the building, firing. Instinctively Daniel ducked away from the window, but the bullets pinged off the brick above them. Daniel opened the window. “Stop that! Gimme a minute.” More falling down the stairs than walking down them, Daniel made his way outside, unlocked the fence, and waved Pierre inside its perimeter. That was when Pierre drew back an arm and landed a solid, large fist right in Daniel’s face. Staggering backward, he fell, ass hitting the sandy ground hard. Pushing up on one hand, Daniel rubbed his chin with the other. “What the hell? My life is none of your—” Pierre strode forward, grabbed Daniel’s shirt collar and hauled him to his feet… then punched him again. This time Daniel slid a few feet after his ass hit the sand. “Stop that!” He scrambled to his feet and backed up when Pierre took a few steps toward him. “Are you sober?” Pierre’s voice was still raised, but he seemed less violent. Brushing sand off his jeans, Daniel looked at the man and mumbled, “More than I was ten minutes ago.” Pierre took a few deep breaths and glanced back at the van Daniel now saw parked a few yards away. “It was a set up. The whole thing, that’s why your team didn’t find anything. There was never anything to find.” “What?” “It was an inside job. We’ve got a mole.” Daniel stood and blinked stupidly at his friend, trying to wrap his head around what Pierre was saying. His gaze shifted to the van, looking for signs of Kyle. He suddenly needed to know if Kyle was alright. A cold shiver slithered up his spine. Then Pierre said the words Daniel never expected. “The first suspect was Kyle. Keller said it was out of his hands. He turned Kyle over to the government.” “He—” Daniel’s lungs deflated and his head spun. “Why?” 🌠🌠🌠My Sentries series was nominated in the Best Book All Around category of LR Cafe's Best of 2021 Awards.🌠🌠🌠 You are everything to me. My breath, my heartbeat. Without you my life would be empty. Three hundred years ago, natural disaster reformed the face of North America, and the people who lived in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains would never be the same.
Now, the master/slave bond in New Colorado has become a sacred rite of service, protection, and, sometimes, for the lucky, love. Follow Nick and his beloved Master, Todd Ruger, a sentry of the territories, as they struggle to survive together amid the collision of old superstition, new beliefs, territorial war, and the ever-present danger of the natural and supernatural frontier. This box set contains all six books in Elizabeth Noble’s best-selling Sentries series, including: Marked Yours: Todd is a sentry, raised and trained to stop evil. Born a slave, Nick’s a psychic, meant to be another weapon in Todd’s arsenal. Todd doesn’t want a weapon and Nick doesn’t want to be one. They both want a partner, a mate. What they get is so much more. More than the sum of their partnership, they set out on a life together determined to make a difference. If they can survive. Together Bound: Mysterious attacks are taking place at the Chancellor’s Estate. Against their will and their better judgement, Todd and Nick go undercover to track a vicious killer. Catching it, thought, could turn their lives upside down and the love they have for each other could be the real victim. Chained Hearts: War rages in New Colorado Protectorate. Try as hard as they do, Todd and Nick Ruger can’t run far enough to avoid being drawn back into the conflict. Used as pawns by the power-hungry Vice Chancellor forces each man to the breaking point. Love and forgiveness become their most powerful weapon in the fight to preserve the family they’ve created. Collared Souls: War is hell and conspiracy theories abound. Todd and Nick Ruger are thrown kicking and fighting into the thick of things. Attacks come from all sides threatening not only their lives but the bond they’ve forged. All fences can be mended, and again, this is a hard-learned fact for the Rugers. Their family is forever if they can survive. Love each other is the most important lesson of all. Tethered Pair: The battle to preserve New Colorado Protectorate rages on forcing Todd and Nick Ruger to use every skill they possess to survive. Their most powerful weapon against the supernatural threats they face is the bond they have with each other. Will their bond survive a war with a demonic enemy? Ringed Love: You are everything to me. My breath, my heartbeat. Without you my life would be empty. Todd and Nick Ruger live a life filled with adventure, surprises and danger. Throughout it all, good times and heartbreaking events their love holds fast and grows, always there, never ending. That was the way it was always meant to be. A shiver worked its way down Tyler’s spine as he unlocked the main lodge’s front door. Once they were inside, they shook snow off and shed their coats. “All the entrances to this building are secure?” “Yeah.” Tyler nodded. “Those windows don’t open.” He motioned to the wall of glass. It shimmered and vibrated when a gust of wind hit it. “I hope you don’t think less of me for what I’m about to say, but I’m really glad you showed up. Finding out someone is sneaking around here and camping out in a shutdown building is a little creepy.” Linden chuckled. It was a soft, mellow sound that made Tyler’s heart beat a little faster. “It’s a lot creepy. I wouldn’t like being here alone under those circumstances.” “I guess it’s a good thing for both of us, then,” Tyler said. Linden smiled and nodded, making Tyler feel warmth spread through his chest. “Coffee?” “That sounds fantastic. I need to check in with my office and Randy.” “You and Randy are… uh… close?” Tyler hoped he didn’t sound too disappointed—or pathetic. Linden smiled as he typed on his phone, presumably replying to the e-mails he’d read earlier. “We’ve been friends since college, were assigned to the same dorm room as freshmen and were roomies the whole time. It was a coincidence, of course, but we’re both gay, and it worked out well. He’s an investigative reporter—pretty good too. Randy sells stories to publications all over the world.” He put the phone down and studied Tyler. “However, we’ve never been anything but friends. Don’t light each other’s fires. There are things people will tell a reporter they won’t tell an FBI agent, or any law enforcement, so he gives me some help sometimes, and I give him a story sometimes.” That fact made Tyler happier and more relieved than it probably should have. “I really am happy you’re here. I guess I’m not a very suspicious person and wouldn’t have thought much of seeing those drapes open.” “That’s not a bad thing. Not at all.” Linden sat at the table while Tyler made coffee. “Do you know who Jeremy DeCompos is?” He turned his phone and showed Tyler a picture of a young, nice-looking black man. “He was transferred into my program a week or two before I… left. I remember the name, wouldn’t have put a face to it without that photo, and don’t really know anything about him. Why? Who is he?” Tyler was pretty sure he already knew the answer. “There was a body found in a burned-out abandoned building a few blocks from Hernandez’s apartment. Originally it looked like a vagrant. The fire was started in a makeshift pit, probably for cooking and heat. It’s still unclear which of them died first. Examination of DeCompos’s body will take longer due to the condition.” “Do you think it’s another murder meant to look like something else?” Linden nodded. “Yes. I do.” He got up and crossed to the pullout couch and his laptop briefcase. While Tyler poured large mugs of coffee and filled the small space with a rich aroma, Linden booted up his computer. “Let me show you a few things.” Bait is available in eBook, paperback and through KoboPlus! My snippet this week is from Shifting Chaos, book 4 of The Sleepless City (series cowritten with Anne Barwell). “C’mon, Oscar, out of the garbage can you go. Are you all right?” He put his other hand on Blair’s chest and held him at arm’s length. “Eww, ripe.” Blair looked like a kicked puppy, with glop and goo and things Forge didn’t want to guess the origin of sticking to his shirt and dripping off his head. Forge stifled a laugh when Blair lifted one hand to wipe something green that probably shouldn’t have been green from his face. He merely succeeded in smearing more of it across his skin. “The connection broke again,” Blair said, “but only for a few seconds.” “We’ll have to practice and work out some signals if I ever plan to use it again,” Forge said softly. “Get these two to the compound,” Jasper growled, still more wolf than person, from behind them. “Do you know them?” He jogged, naked, to Forge and Blair, stopped a few feet away, and wrinkled his nose. “I’ve seen them before,” Forge said. He started to take off his hoodie. “Do you want this, Jasper?” “Why? It’s not really cold.” “I know them too,” Blair said quietly. “I think. The memory is hazy.” Read more snippets in the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Shifting Chaos is available in eBook, paperback and

Relax, recharge and whisk away with a good book! “You… um… want a beer or….” Jay took the keys when Eric held them out to him, dropped them on the table, and led the way to the living room, stopping near the couch. His words trailed away when Eric moved behind him and slipped both hands over Jay’s shoulders. Warm air hit Jay’s neck when Eric breathed out, “I’m good. I have everything I want right here.” Jay swallowed and leaned back against Eric, delighting in that feeling of being surrounded again. Dragging one hand across Jay’s back, Eric paced away. He shed his leather jacket, draping it over a chair, and settled on the couch in front of Jay. He leaned back, let his legs drop open slightly with his hands folded between them. Jay stayed rooted where he was, standing there feeling on display and naked even though he still had his clothes on. “About that call,” Eric said quietly. “I’m sorry, that was wrong.” “Yeah, I got you’re sorry. I’m not angry, simply curious. Why, if you wanted to call me as much as you claim, didn’t you?” “I… it’s complicated and….” Eric’s tone hardened ever so slightly. “Explain it to me. I might understand.” “My father, he thinks it’ll reflect badly on him, how I am.” “You mean being gay? It’s not a disease. You can’t infect him. And it’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of.” “I know,” Jay whispered. “But he’s my father.” Eric nodded, expression softening. “I get that part. I understand about keeping things quiet and discrete.” “Well, there’s more. He found this woman, Kellie Bodnar. I’ve agreed to marry her.” Jay shrugged. “To keep up ‘appearances’.” He made quote signs in the air. “I know, this isn’t the nineteen-fifties, but appeasing him will help me own this business one day. I have no idea how she and my father met.” When Eric didn’t do much other than raise one eyebrow, Jay fumbled ahead, forcing the words out in a rush. “Look, it’s a fake, but I have to show up in public with her. I don’t think she even likes me much. He’s paying for her education, and when she’s done with that, he’ll give her money for research. I mean what man--Dom—in his right mind is going to put up with that crap?” “So, you decided for me?” “No. But, I didn’t think—” “No, you sure as hell didn’t,” Eric snapped. Jay opened his mouth and shut it again, not knowing what to say. He looked down, staring at the floor between his feet. After a few slow breaths, Eric continued, “How do you feel about this girl?” Rocking on his heels a few times, Jay clasped his hands behind his back and took another deep breath. “I barely know her. She’s polite to me. If you’re asking if I’m in any way interested in her as a partner, sexually, or otherwise, the answer is no. I’m not bi. I’ve never had her here. I never want her in my home.” He ventured a peek up at Eric. “She sure as hell is no underwear model.” Eric chuckled, nodded, and relaxed farther back into the couch. “And because of this—arrangement—you think you can’t have a real life? One you’d like? Be in a real relationship?” When Jay only nodded, Eric shifted on the couch, leaned forward, and rested his elbows on his knees. “What happens after you’re married?” “As long as we keep up the appearance of a couple, we go about our lives. Whatever she’s studying and her research will require her to travel.” Eric nodded. “So, what do we do about this situation? How do we handle this?” Taking a few tentative steps forward, Jay dipped his knees and knelt on the floor. Inching forward until he was close enough to rest both hands on Eric’s knees, he focused on the floor between them. “I don’t know. I guess I never gave it much thought. I figured no one would be interested in me after they found out.” “You wanted to call and felt you couldn’t?” Eric brushed his fingers lightly through Jay’s hair making his scalp tingle and sending little jolts of electricity down his neck and spine to rest near his tailbone. He tapped the back of one of Jay’s hands with two fingers. Jay pulled his hands away from Eric’s legs and clasped them behind his back. “Yes, sir.” “There’d be rules, of course, concerning what happens after one of your performances with her.” For the Long Run is available in eBook, paperback, audio book and through Kindle Unlimited. Electric Candle is available in eBook, paperback and through Kindle Unlimited. Marsh snarled and took a step forward. Lucas grabbed his arm, stepping between them. “This isn’t helping. Detective Forge is here to find a killer, and so am I. He was sent because he’s the best. Let us do our work, Randall. It’s Anita’s wishes. Have some respect.” Lucas’s eyes turned gold, and his teeth morphed to ones larger, more pointed and prominent, for a few seconds.
Forge felt a stab of pride for his friend. Lucas might not have had much to do with his pack since befriending Forge and Simon, and other werewolves certainly did not approve of his career choice. However, the fact was Lucas was still the son of the leader of the oldest and most powerful pack in this part of the country. He wasn’t above using that when it was needed. Right then, it was clearly needed. “What can you…?” Forge waved one hand near his head. Lucas sighed and concentrated for a minute. “It’s the same, the burns, not as intense or extensive as on the other victims and an odd scent I think is Xylazine, but no sign of sexual activity.” “We can’t take him to your lab at the station like this,” Forge said. The man, a young male werewolf, was obviously not human. His chest, ripped open and semi-eviscerated, was larger and more barrel-like than a human’s. It was clear he’d partially changed when he was killed. The section of his face that remained had chunks of fur and flesh pulled away, exposing bone. One side of his skull was completely gone, and what was left of his brain was exposed. “There is no odor of vampire on him, but you knew that,” Lucas said to Marsh. “There’s also no strong scent of another werewolf. Nor human,” he added almost as an afterthought. “Well, he didn’t do this to himself.” Forge stood up and stripped off his gloves, wadded them up, and put them back in his jacket pocket. “What the hell are we dealing with that can take out a werewolf like this?” Lucas shook his head. He looked sick. Taking out a notepad, he scribbled some things down, then held it out to Marsh. “Here’s the deal. Give this list to Anita. She’ll understand what to do and will know who in the pack can get it done. Ask her to email me the results as soon as she starts getting them. I know how long preliminaries should take, don’t forget that. So, don’t get any stupid ideas about covering this up or cutting me out of the loop.” “You get this done, and we’ll make anything official about this go away. Got it?” Forge finished for Lucas. He was happy to be the bad guy and make it look like Lucas had no choice. Randall nodded but didn’t say a word as they went back to their car. Forge drove to the gate and stopped. Lucas leaned out the window and spoke to the woman officer. “No report and no transport needed.” She nodded and guided the van back the way they’d come. “You think this is related to the others?” Forge asked as they drove back to the station. “Yeah, I do. I think whatever is doing this can’t tell human from non-human and picked the wrong victim,” Lucas said and stared out the passenger window. Just Forge’s luck. They were dealing with something powerful enough to do that sort of damage to an adult male werewolf, and it was loose in his city. Maybe Forge would be able to move fast enough, and maybe Lucas would be able to intercept without getting stabbed himself. Those weren’t odds he was willing to take. The man began backing toward the exit. Lucas put his arms in the air, and Forge sneezed again, staggered to his feet, and doubled over. Lucas still had enough wolf out to bare his teeth. He growled and said, “I’m going to find you. This isn’t over.” The man turned and ran. A moment later, Lucas heard the sound of a motorcycle roaring away into the distance. Lucas shook himself, sending water droplets spraying across the area. Forge threw his phone to the dock, stumbled to the edge, then dropped into the water, bobbing up and down, running one hand through his hair. The dust spread out around him and mingled with drops of blood. He ducked under the water and came up a few feet away. Lucas reverted to his completely human self and ran forward, grabbed Forge’s hand, and yanked him out of the water. “I’m shot!” “Quit your whining. It won’t kill you,” Lucas said. He scooped up his shirt and pressed it to Forge’s shoulder. “Ow!” Forge bellowed. “Where is that asshole?” “He left.” Lucas sat back, snatched his jeans, and shimmied into them. “And you let him?” “Yes!” Lucas yelled. “He had more wolfsbane and a silver-edged knife as well as a gun.” He took a few deep breaths. “You’ll catch him; you always do. I wasn’t going to risk him doing more damage. He’s on a motorcycle, which was probably hidden.” Lucas’s phone chimed, and Forge’s phone played the sixties Batman theme. Pulling his phone out, Lucas held it up to his ear and said, “I’m fine. The big guy is fine too.” “I’m shot,” Forge shouted. “It hurts!” Lucas scooted back a few feet and smiled when Declan said, “If he can yell like that, you’re both good.” Lucas grabbed Forge’s phone and tossed it to him. “And now I’m soaking wet, too,” Forge said. He rested his phone on his knee. Taking a deep breath, he spoke more calmly. “Really, Blair, we’re both okay. We’ll give you guys a call if we need help or a ride.” Lucas stood up and pocketed his phone again. He held out his hand to Forge and helped him up. “Lemme see that.” He took his shirt away and looked more closely at Forge’s shoulder. “It went through.” Forge twisted around. “I was over here.” He moved to the spot he’d been standing in when the gun had discharged. “What’s a werewolf from Scotland doing here?” “Besides shooting me?” Forge paced closer to the wall behind him. “Yeah, and why did he shoot you? He had to know it wouldn’t do much good.” “Diversion?” Forge was running his fingertips over the wall. “Can you dig this out?” “Did you find it?” Lucas followed Forge. He extended his claws and used one to pluck a bullet from the wall. Claws retracted into fingers again, he held his hand out palm up. “Thanks,” Forge stuffed the bullet into his pocket. “We need to ask a few vampires a few questions, I think.” Lucas spotted the odd little flakes he’d found and dropped earlier. He bent and picked them up. “Look at these.” “What are they?” “I don’t know,” Lucas said and shook his head. “They were stuck in the hull of the boat. They must have some kind of autoluminous property since it was dark under there and they shimmered.” He tilted his hand side to side. “They remind me of scales.” The flat, oblong objects changed color as Lucas moved them. He and Forge looked at each other. Lucas stuffed the objects into his pocket. Forge pulled in a deep breath, took his phone out again, and placed a call. A man had his back to him. He appeared to be inspecting a shell-covered jewellery box. Not one of Billy’s wisest choices. “Can I help you?” When the man turned around, Billy gasped. He hadn’t seen someone that handsome in a long time. With light brown skin and short dreadlocks that appeared to have been tinted by the sun, he glowed. He was a contrast to Billy’s much darker tone and cropped hair. Fashion statements had never been high on Billy’s agenda. He took pride in his appearance whilst making minimal effort. Although when Crystal’s friends all became obsessed with giving each other facials at sleepovers, he did succumb to letting Crystal practice her technique on him. We have an appointment?” “That’s right.” “Sorry, Mr Channing,” Harry said as he pushed past Billy. “My brother appears to have let the heat get to him. I’m Harry and this is Billy.” Eddie shook his hand. “That’s better. I’d get confused dealing with two Mr Websters.” Billy got a hold of himself and forced his brain to focus. “My apologies, Mr…Eddie. I don’t know what came over me.” This man intrigued Eddie. “Don’t worry about it. As long as I have the bragging rights. It’s not every day I make a handsome man lose his words. My flatmates will be amazed.” Did he just call me handsome? Billy refused to let his emotions take control. This was important. He wouldn’t fall for a salesman’s tactics. He held his hand out. When Eddie took it, Billy tried his best to ignore the spark of electricity that fizzed through him. “Would you like to come through?” Billy said. “I’ll put the closed sign on,” Harry chipped in. “No n—” Billy started. Harry widened his eyes at him. “Probably for the best.” Suddenly, Billy saw how wildly out of his depth he was. Harry seemed to be treating this like one of his fights. He was ducking and weaving all over the place. Billy had never been any good at games. That was probably why they were about to go bust. He led Eddie through. The close proximity making his heart beat a little faster. However, those few steps gave him the chance to get it together. “Take a seat,” he said. “Can I get you a drink? It’s hot today.” “No, I’m good,” Eddie said. Billy took his usual seat at the little desk. He gestured for Eddie to take the armchair that Crystal usually sat in to do her homework. Harry soon followed them and perched delicately on the remaining stool. He was far too big for it. Billy prayed to everything holy that it wouldn’t collapse under him. Why didn’t I give him this seat? Fuck’s sake, calm down. It doesn’t matter. SERIES BLURB Pleasure Seekers is the online store for the nation’s naughty needs.
