My snippet this week is from For the Long Run. Eyes watering, Molloy grabbed his middle and staggered back a few steps, looking up at Eric. Fisting Molloy’s jacket in both hands, Eric shoved him until his back connected with the wall. “You listen to me, you miserable piece of shit. You don’t hit your kid. Doesn’t matter if he’s four or twenty-four. Got that?” For emphasis, Eric slammed Molloy into the wall again. “It’s none of your—” The words wheezed and coughed out of Molloy. Eric cut him off again. “What part of shut up don’t you get?” Taking a few steps back, hauling Molloy with him, Eric swung a chair away from the small, round conference table and sat Molloy in it hard enough the senator sucked in a breath and hissed. “You ever so much as look as if you’re going to hurt Jay again, you’ll deal with me.” “I didn’t mean—” Barking a short, nasty laugh, Eric said, “Don’t try to convince me you beat the crap out of your own kid by accident. He wouldn’t even hit you back or defend himself. What does that tell you?” Leaning in close to speak right into the senator’s ear, Eric said in a low voice, “Me? I’d love for you to give me an excuse to hit back.” Check out more snippets on the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. For the Long Run is available in eBook, paperback and through Kindle Unlimited and is reduced to $2.99 for the month of September.
