 My snippet this week comes from Strays, a post-apoc scifi romance.  When Kyle lost his footing, sliding out over thin air and plummeting into dark, choppy lake water, Daniel’s heart skipped more than a few beats. Every muscle in his chest seized and clamped down tight. His knees felt like rubber and his gut sank.
