Survival was a skill Declan had in abundance. Slipping his shirt from his shoulders, exposing his chest to the creature, Declan dropped to his knees and ran his palms over its considerable manhood. Shaking, thanking the gods this thing could be aroused like any man, Declan scooted closer and wrapped one arm around its muscular hips. He knew what to do to gain this creature’s favor and in all honesty, he was intrigued with the man’s, this creature’s, power. Failing that he still had his blade. Declan was grabbed by hands stronger than any human’s and shoved away. The creature screamed words that sounded like gibberish. “Óþokku ligr hvore ek munu kut þinn hands eigi á/” A century later Declan found out, quite by accident, he’d been called a whore and there was the threat to cut off his hands in Old Norse. “Bastard,” Declan spat and scrambled backward. The man-thing took a step and in the blink of an eye, was holding Declan over his head as he twisted in a circle. The creature moved so fast Declan’s head spun and the meager contents of his stomach was expelled. In another second he was sailing through the air and came to a painful stop at the bottom of a cargo hold. How he escaped a broken neck, Declan would never know.
